[화상 영어] 세번째 수업 리뷰

오늘 수업의 주제는 Social Media 였다.

1. Conversation Review

Ross : Why don't you tell me what social media apps do you use?

Me : In my case, I used to use Facebook, Instagram and Kakaotalk.

의도 :  저는 주로 페이스북, 인스타그램, 카카오톡을 사용합니다. 근데 요즘에는 페이스북은 잘 안 쓴는 것 같아요.
의도(English) : I mainly use Facebook, Instagram, and KakaoTalk. But I don't use Facebook much these days.

 

Ross : And you say you used to use, do you no longer use social media?

Me : These days, I don't use Facebook and I just use Instagram and Kakaotalk.

의도 :  아뇨, 제가 잘못말한 것 같아요. 페이스북을 최근에 안 쓰기는 하지만, 인스타그램과 카카오톡은 사용해요.
의도(English) : No, I think I misspoke, I haven't used Facebook lately, but I do use Instagram and KakaoTalk.

 

Ross : Why did you stop using Facebook?

Me : Because in Facebook, I felt there are so many unnecessary information like advertisement or not very informative things.

의도 :  왜냐하면 제가 느끼기에 페이스북에는 너무 많은 광고와 낚시성 기사들이 많기 때문에 유용한 정보를 얻기가 힘든 것 같아요.
의도(English) : Because I feel like there are so many ads and trolling articles on Facebook that it's hard to get useful information.

 

Ross : I like to use Reddit. Have you ever heard of Reddit?

Me : Oh, Yes I heard it.

의도 :  네, 들어봤어요.
의도(English) : Yes, I've heard of it.

 

Ross : Alright, so let's talk about the social impact of social media. Overall, do you think social media is a good thing or a bad thing and why?

Me : It's little bit difficult question, but I think social media has more disadvantage than advantage.

의도 :  조금 어려운 질문인데, 제 생각에는 소셜 미디어는 장점보다는 단점이 많은 것 같아요.
의도(English) : It's a tough question, and I think social media has more downsides than upsides.

 

Ross : What are those disadvantages?

Me : As many people upload their life's good point, someone might compare their lifes with others.

의도 : 소셜 미디어에서는 많은 사람들이 삶의 좋은 부분만 업로드하기 때문에, 누군가는 그것들을 자신들의 삶과 비교하면서 상대적 박탈감을 느낄 수 있을 것 같아요. 특히 오늘 날에는 그러한 현상이 더욱 심해진 것 같고요.
의도(English) : On social media, a lot of people only post the good parts of their lives, so I think someone can compare it to their own life and feel a sense of relative deprivation, and I think that's especially true today.

 

Ross : What other negatives do you see in social media?

Me : And I think I spend too many times for do social media.

의도 : 그리고 제 생각에 저는 소셜 미디어에 너무 많은 시간을 쓰는 것 같아요.
의도(English) : And I think I spend way too much time on social media.

 

Ross : Give me one positive thing about social media.

Me : Social media helps people to communicate easy. If we don't use social media, when we want to communicate with someone, we can send emails, visit them, calling them.. this is little bit burdensome.

의도 : 소셜 미디어는 그래도 사람들이 의사소통하기 좋은 환경을 제공해줘요. 만약 소셜 미디어가 없었다면, 우리는 주변 사람들과 관계를 유지하기 위해 이메일이나 편지를 쓰거나 심지어 직접 방문해야 할 거에요. 이건 굉장히 귀찮은 일이죠.
의도(English) : Without social media, we would have to write emails, letters, or even visit people in person to stay connected with them, which is a huge hassle.

 

2. Feedback

- Upload 발음할 때, p 발음이 soft해서 m처럼 들린다.(umload), purchase도 마찬가지

- the good things / aspects

- spending too many times (x) -> too much time (o)

- communicate easy (x) -> make it easier to communicate with friends

- burdensome 보다는 tiring

 

[Some expressions]

- She was devastated to find out that her online crush turned out to be a catfish.

- I fell for the clickbait headline, but the article didn't live up to its promise.

- She's been a lurker on the forum for years, reading but never posting

- He received an email asking for his bank details, but he recognized it as a phishing attempt.

- He boasted about how he pwned his opponent in the online game.
